FAMILY AND EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Jagrati is a resident of Bhopal. Jagrati’s father, Professor Dr. SC Awasthi, is a professor in the Government Medical College of Homeopathy, while her mother Madhulata Awasthi is a housewife. Madhulata herself was a teacher but she left her job for the sake of children’s education. She had earlier professional job experience in Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) which she joined after completing her B Tech degree from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) in Bhopal. She decided to leave her job at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and dedicate her entire focus to preparing for UPSC CSE.

WHY CIVIL SERVICES

Initially Jagrity’s aim was to become an engineer and for that, she pursued her graduation in BTech course. After that, she joined BHEL PSU as an electrical engineer. But in her professional career, she was not fully satisfied and wanted to do something in society with more meaningful and satisfying work. So she decided to go into Civil services and become a civil servant which provides a big platform to work for society.

NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS

This was Jagrati’s second attempt. After failing in her first attempt, she analyzed where she went wrong and how to improve. Soon, Awasthi understood the gaps in her preparation and started preparing accordingly. She gave herself time to comprehend the syllabus of UPSC and understand the types of questions that are asked.

STUDY PLAN AND SCHEDULE

Awasthi left her job at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic started and the nation was in lockdown. However, Awashti stood dedicated and took this time to prepare for the exam. While Awasthi did go to Delhi to prepare for the exam, she had to come back due to the prevailing COVID-19 scenario in the country. Initially, she studied for 8 to 10 hours. Eventually, she increased it to 10 to 12 hours, and about two months before the exam, she further pushed it to 12 to 14 hours. There are lots of online tutorials, notes, however, Awasthi said in an interview that 90% of contribution in the exam would come from one's hard work.

OVERALL JOURNEY

It wasn't an easy journey for Awasthi. During her hard times, she mentioned that it was per parents and brother who supported and motivated her.

ADVICE FOR FUTURE ASPIRANTS

For those who want to crack UPSC, Awasthi has suggested that they should at first go through the subjects in a detailed way and appear for several mock tests once the exam is approaching.
