YASH JALUKA UPSC 2020-21 Rank-4

Yash Jaluka, hailing from Jharia, Dhanbad (Jharkhand), secured All India Rank 4 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2020 in his very first attempt. A dedicated aspirant, he pursued his dream of becoming a civil servant without any formal coaching, relying entirely on self-study. He comes from a supportive family, with his father Manoj Jaluka working in the iron and steel industry, while his mother, Shobha Jaluka, is a homemaker. Yash has an elder brother who runs a ration shop. His education in Economics, with a master’s from Delhi School of Economics, played a key role in his UPSC journey, where he chose Economics as his optional subject.

Yash completed his primary education at De Nobili School in Digwadih, then moved to Xavier’s School in Odisha for his 10th standard. After finishing his 12th in Bokaro, he pursued Economics at Kirori Mal College, Delhi, for his undergraduate studies. Later, he earned a master’s degree in Economics from the prestigious Delhi School of Economics.

Yash comes from a middle-class family in Jharia, Jharkhand. His father, Manoj Jaluka, works in the iron and steel industry, while his mother, Shobha Jaluka, is a homemaker. He has an elder brother, Ankur, who runs a ration shop in their hometown. The support from his family played a critical role in his preparation, helping him stay focused and motivated.

From a young age, Yash had a clear aim of serving the nation through civil services. He was particularly motivated to work in his home state of Jharkhand and contribute to its development. His background in Economics made him more aware of socio-economic issues, further strengthening his resolve to become an IAS officer. Yash believed that with his educational foundation, dedication, and passion for public service, he could make a positive impact on society. His desire to address key issues like poverty, inequality, and economic reform in his state motivated him to pursue civil services as a career.

Yash’s UPSC journey was marked by several challenges, as he relied entirely on self-study without enrolling in any formal coaching. Managing the vast syllabus and staying motivated over the long duration of preparation was not easy, but Yash’s time management skills and his ability to stay focused helped him navigate these hurdles. He ensured that he studied consistently for at least 8 hours a day. Additionally, staying away from distractions and balancing mental stress were other key challenges, but the unwavering support from his family and friends kept him going.
