Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
In the field of defence technology, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones are a class of aircraft that are capable of flying without pilots present.
Unmanned aircraft can be divided into three categories:
autonomous, remotely piloted, and model aircraft.
• DRDO Abhyas, DRDO Fluffy, DRDO Imperial Eagle, DRDO Kapothaka, DRDO Lakshya, DRDO Netra, DRDO Nishant, DRDO Rustom & Rustom II, and DRDO Ulka are a few of the UAVs that the Indian military uses.
• Sheshnaag-150 kamikaze drone with range of 1000 km developed by NewSpace Research & Technologies
Drone Regulations in India
• The ‘No Permission-No Takeoff’ (NPNT) clause in India requires drone operators to obtain regulatory clearance through the Digital Sky Platform before flying.
• All categories require registration, with the exception of Nano.
Classification (As per Drone rules,2021)
• Nano: <250 gm
• Micro: 250 gm to 2 kg
• Mini: 2 kg to 25 kg
• Small: 25 kg to 150 kg
• Large: >150 kg
